Hi Antti,
I was excited to read about your upcoming work from the Google Open Source Blog, I’ve been thinking about this problem on Linux for a while so it was great to hear I’m not the only one thinking about it.
I was going to email you when I heard about your work to suggest that you build a list of provider’s settings so the user can simply select their provider from a list easily.
There are lists available on the interweb so would it make sense to build this into your work and maintain it?
Sure. As long as the information can be licensed under Public Domain I can include it in to my list.
I’m not sure it could be copyrighted (Although, in my country they try to copyright the TV guide (?!?)).
Here’s the kind of list I was referring to:
http://www.flexispy.com/Mobile%20APN%20Setting%20to%20use%20GPRS.htm
If we could build this in so you just select your country, then provider and it Just Works. Great Success!
Yes indeed , as stated in in the project plan (download link is in the side panel) the user selects a country and a provider and it Just Works
I’m quite sure the most if not all of the settings on the page you mentioned are already in the old GPRS EC database. I will investigate this further at week 24.
Fantastic, good luck with your project, it’s certainly looking good.
I look forward to testing it
BTW, I like the easter egg in your Project Plan.
